Door Supervisors slammed in The Publican

Door Supervisors have been slammed in “The Publican” for humiliating young people. and potentially harming pub business.

The claims came from Robert Humphrey’s, Chairman of the Proof of Age Standard Scheme (PASS) as a result of feedback received by PASS scheme members. He said some door staff are behaving “outrageously

He said the problems came from venues where the Door Supervisors were left to their own devices but he praised Wetherspoons for embracing the PASS scheme.

In our view Door Supervisors have a difficult job. if under age people are found or injured on licensed premises then it can mean the licence will be revoked so they try as hard as possible to ensure no under age people gain entry. The PASS cards have in the past been open to abuse and have easily been doctored.

Door Supervisors are employed to decide on the suitability of people entering licenced premises. Just because a person has ID does not automatically give them right of entry. Of course the people who have complained were the salt of the Earth when Door Staff confronted them and didn’t give the Door Staff verbal abuse………

UK Terror warning for travellers.

The Foreign Office has issued a warning strongly urging travellers not the visit the Northern Mali town of Timbuktu because of the fears of terrorism.

In June of this year a British tourist, Edwin Dyer was killed by a group claiming links to Al Qaeda.

The Foreign Office has said the threat of terrorism, and specifically kidnapping is now high and have advised to stay away from the whole of Northern Mali.

Several Westerners have been kidnapped in recent months and held for ransom.

Free Day

We are going to be putting on a free day in the New Year so that visitors will be able to see what we do and how we do it.

This has been a success for other businesses and we see it as a golden opportunity to show business how committed we are to the sectors within which we work.

We will, of course keep you informed of dates we intend holding the free day.

Online Security

How prepared are you?

Fears are growing that many companies are paying lip service to Internet security during recession.

The fact is that 20% of all online attacks are directed towards UK companies. The only country getting more attacks is the US.

Unlike a physical attack on your premises an online attack can be instantly devastating.

We recently reported how Intelligence chiefs are concerned after a large Chinese firm carried out extensive work on the BT infrastructure in the UK. The fear being that software could have been hidden to be activated at a later date to cripple our telecommunications.

Door Supervisor Course

We run Door Supervisors courses in conjunction with the DSTO in Bournemouth.

Our next course was supposed to be on the 27th Nov 09. Due to a lack of bookings we have decided to cancel this course and put on a course in Dec at Langstone Technology Park in Havant.

The course will run on the 04, 05, and 06 Dec 09.

The cost of the course will be £140 for Dec only.

Novartis Southampton / Horsham

Every Tuesday or Wednesday and Friday

Novartis are customers of Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), the largest contract testing lab in Europe.

Protests at HLS are difficult due to injunctions and banning orders so targets vary across the UK. Horsham and Southampton are 2 such targets.

Demos take place against Novartis in Horsham and Southampton who conduct primate experiments on site as well as funding experiments directly at HLS. Demos start at varying times each Tuesday/Wednesday and Friday.

Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) also hold multiple demos across the South Coast weekly. If you are a potential target of these demos then please ensure you and your staff are prepared.

If you require advice and/or Personal Safety training please call us immediately.

New HSE (2009) Law posters

We have had questions and heard horror stories about small and medium businesses receiving mail suggesting they need to act NOW to replace their current HSE (1999) Law poster.

The fact is don’t be bullied into paying money for something you don’t need. Your current HSE (1999) Law poster is legal until 05 April 2014 as long as it is legible and all the contact detail on it are correct.

You don’t have to display the poster and if you choose not to then you must issue all employees with (2009) pocket cards which contain the same info as the wall poster.

The new 2009 poster is much more simplistic than its 1999 predecessor. It provides employees with listed information about what an employer should provide. You no longer have to provide information of your enforcing authority as the HSE info line holds all such information.

The reporting of accidents is also a lot easier with one number for the Incident Contact Centre.

The new (2009) poster is also uniquely serial numbered with a security style hologram to ensure you have a genuine copy.

If you have been hounded or bombarded with letters or calls scare mongering then give us a call for advice. Or indeed if you would like more information on the posters and personal cards than feel free to call.
