Compression only CPR
Vinnie Jones In the new British Heart Foundation advert on TV is advocating compression only CPR.
This seems to be confusing people and we have received calls from First Aiders asking if the new standard is NOT to give breaths when performing CPR. In short NO, resuscitation is still 30 chest compressions to a depth of 5-6 cm at a rate 100-120 compressions per minute followed by the rescuer ATTEMPTING 2 breaths. Read the rest of this entry »
Terror Threat
Terror Threat Level Reduced
On Monday the Home Secretary, Theresa May announced that the Terror Threat to the UK from International Terrorism would be reduced from Severe to Substantial.This means that a terrorist attack is a strong possibility and might well occur without further warning. The Terror Threat level posed by Northern Irish Terrorism remains unchanged at Severe in Northern Ireland and Substantial on the UK Mainland. Prior to this Terror Threat change, the UK was at Severe since the 22 Jan 2010.

It has recently been reported that the BSI and the HSE have been working together on the introduction of a new standard concerning First Aid Kits in the Workplace that took effect on the 30 June 2011. Currently, the contents of First Aid Kits are determined by the First Aid Needs Assessment and Risk Assessment that must be carried out by an employer. Enshrined in Law under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. Regulation 3 of the Management Regs states that an employer MUST make an assessment of reasonably foreseeable risk. Read the rest of this entry »

Why is CCTV Data Compliance so essential?
Fact, we live in the most heavily CCTV populated Country in the World. Fact, we have more CCTV cameras in the UK than China and China as we know is a Communist State. Fact, the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) estimates that 95% of CCTV Systems are not compliant with Data Protection Legislation. The general public are massively aware of CCTV intruding in their every day lives and with that intrusion comes an expectation that those using CCTV are doing so in a lawful and proper way. Is Health and Safety such a dirty word?
Mention Health and Safety and Im sure those of you reading this are no different to the people attending our courses and cringe in dread. But why? Health and Safety has been in the workplace for all my working life and Im sure most of yours. Admitedly I cant remember Health and Safety being big in the 80s or early 90s but now it is unrecognisable from the introduction on the Health and Safety at Work Act in 1974. Behaviour in School
It is quite alarming to see reported that teachers have gone on strike due to poor student behaviour in School and the lack of backing from the Head-teacher when teachers try and maintain order in the school. Olympic Threat
On Tuesday Police arrested a 40 year old dog handler working for a security company on the Olympic site in East London on suspicion of possessing explosives. 2 more arrests have been made in connection with this incident. A43 year old male was arrested in Wales on Wednesday on suspicion of possession of explosives. On Friday a 61 year old male was arrested in East London on suspicion of supplying an explosive substance.
The arrests were made by the OSSU (Olympic Site Support Unit) Police said that site safety had not been at risk

Libya and Foreign Travel
