New Resuscitation Guidelines 2010
![]()
SPP Solutions Ltd are Health and Safety Executive (HSE) registered and are able to offer a full range of First Aid courses in Havant, Portsmouth, Hampshire the South Coast and Nationally. We offer 3 day First Aid at Work, the new 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), Paediatric First Aid, 2 day Re-qualifying Courses as well as AED Defibrillator and Oxygen Therapy Training courses. SPP Solutions are able to deliver our 1st Aid courses according to customer needs and the requirements of your working environment.
First Aid regulations changed on October the 1st 2009 and what it means to you is that if you only needed Appointed Person (AP) training then you will need to look at your First Aid Risk Assessment as the Health and Safety Executive say that any business who used Appointed Persons will now have very little or no justification in using AP to provide First Aid. You will now have to do either the new 3 Day course or the new 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work course.
Resuscitation guidelines changed in Oct of 2010 introducing some subtle changes to the Basic Life Support Model. When calling for help the First Aider should also now ask for an AED as well as a First Aid kit. When checking breathing the First Aider is looking for normal breathing. Anything that is not normal breathing then he/she should start CPR. Compression depth is now 5-6cm at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. You should only stop CPR if the casualty makes meaningful signs of life, you are physically exhausted or professional medical help arrives. Breaths should be administered over 1 sec and not 2 with the emphasis on compressions. It is hoped that these subtle changes will have a dramatic effect on survival rates over time.
First Aid Accreditations
As we have mentioned we are fully accredited with the HSE for the delivery of First Aid training. We are also members of the Federation Of First Aid Training Organisations (FOFATO) FOFATO was formed in September 2007 by Ian Kershaw MBE (Ex-Head of the First Aid Approval and Monitoring Section (FAAMS) within the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) from 1996-2007) at the request of First Aid Training Providers.
