The SIA are making some sweeping changes to Security qualifications in 2010.

The main change that affects not only Door Supervisors but the companies that train them is the new Breakaway and Dis engagement module due to be rolled out in June 10.

SPP Solutions is holding a FREE information day surrounding the implications of these changes and also intends giving information on how training companies who may not be able to deliver the new module currently, can ensure that by June they will be fully able to comply.

Our second Weekend Door Supervisor course finished on Sun 20 Sept and was a great success. While a couple of people on the course recognised that relying on Public transport, especially on a Sunday was a pain the benefits of being able to gain a licensed qualification over 3 days, 2 of which are a weekend was priceless.

Most of those who attended said they would not be able to get time off to do the more traditional 4 Working Day course.

SPP Solutions are holding a BII Door Supervisors course on Fri 18 Sept – Sun 20 Sept 2009 at our Langstone Technology Park offices.

The weekend course has proved popular and students who attended the last course commented on the fact that the facilities at Langstone made working a weekend less of a chore.

The content of the course remains the same so although the days are a little longer it means that you can complete this course while in your current employment which is vital in these turbulent times.

Central OCU covers an area including Winchester, Gosport and Fareham but NOT Portsmouth or Southampton. As a result of figues gained under Freedom of Information from Hampshire Police SPP Solutions can report the following knife and edged weapons crime took place in 2008-09.

In 2008 614 Edged Weapons Offences were recorded. From the 01st Jan to 01st July 2009 252 offences were recorded. With 7 months to go before the end of the statistical Year the prognosis is not good.

In 2008 406 people were charged under the Criminal Justice Act 1988, possession of a knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place. From the 01st Jan to 01st July 2009 164 people were charged. Again with 7 months of the statistical year to go the prognosis is not good.

In 2008 2 Females were arrested for posession. From the 01st Jan to 01 Jul 2009 5 Females have been arrested.

I hope this gives an overview of the extent of edged weapons crime in the Central OCU area. This is not the whole of Hampshire and it must be stressed Central OCU does not cover Portsmouth or Southampton. The main population centres are Havant, Fareham, Gosport, Winchester.

SPP Solutions has just been accepted by Southwark Borough Council as a preferred training provider.
